‘Lazy’ Summer Holidays Affect Children’s Fitness Levels Poorly

 -

According to a new study, children in the UK today are far less active during summer holiday. Health and fitness experts say that this leads to that any fitness gained during the school year will have vanished in a short six weeks.

In the study, more than 400 pupils in 14 schools in the UK have been surveyed. The study showed that pupils made steady improvements in their fitness levels during the school year.

In the summer holidays however, all this progress is reversed. Children tend to replace their physical education lessons and walks with computer games and similar passive activities.

This is the first study that measured fitness levels of children before and after the summer holidays.
